Obituary: Orval Wright

Orval Wright passed away Saturday March 24, 2001 at his home in LaVerkin, UT. He was 77 years old.

Orval was born to Caroline and Alma Wright April 28, 1923 in Hurricane, UT.

Orval grew up in Hurricane where he attended school.

Orval joined the Navy where he was active during World War II. He later served in the Nation-al Guard. Orval was proud of his country and his service, as he served as the state commander in the American Legion. He was also an active supporter of the Winter Special Olympics serving as a volunteer for over fifteen years.

One of Orval's favorite places was Kolob mountain where he was responsible for some of the major developing that took place. Orval had a vast knowledge of water and helped assist many people solving problems with water rights. He was a collector of old radios and was involved in M.A.R.S. (Military Amateur Radio Station). Many people know him as "W7YAI," Orval's call number. Orval was a true salesman, selling items ranging from silverware, to diamonds. He also enjoyed running his business Orval Wright Solar Electric.

Orval is survived by one sister, Elva Adams Washington, UT. His children, Dianne (Roger) Meikle, Hurricane, UT, Philip (Fenella) Washington, UT, David Las Vegas, NV, DeAnn Deniker SLC, UT, Russell (Heather) LaVerkin, UT, Mitchell, Provo, UT; 21 grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, and three sisters. Orval will be missed by his family; friends; and his special best friend, Hayden, his grandson.

Services will be March 28, in the Hurricane LDS chapel, 274 S. 100 W, 11 a.m. with a viewing one hour prior. Friends may call Tues. at Spilsbury and Beard Mortuary, Hurricane, 6-8. Interment, Hurricane Cemetery.
