James Angie Nunley, age 88, died at home Friday, March 23, 2001.
Born November 28, 1912 in Fort Worth, Texas to William Scott and Irene Anglum George. Married Jessie D. Smith in May 1935 and later divorced. Married Verda Thamert in December, 1972. Employed with Salt Lake City Parks and Recreation Department for 35 years. Retired as superintendent of the City and County building. Managed and coached the original Aurbach's women's Shamrock softball team. Also managed and coached Penny Beverage (Budweiser) baseball and softball teams for many years with his brother, Joe. Affiliated and active in numerous democratic activities. Also an active member of the International Footprinters Association, Chapter 3, and served as one of the original members of the Salt Lake City Credit Union. Honorably served in the Marine Corps during World War II. He enjoyed all sports especially fishing, golfing and bowling. He had many lasting friends in Salt Lake, Tabiona, Panguitch, and Apache Junction.
Survived by wife, Verda; sons and daughter, Robert (Ruth) Nunley, West Valley City; Sharlene (Erland) Reber, Holladay; Jim (Jo Ann) Nunley, Salt Lake City; Frank (Penny) Nunley, Phoenix, AZ; Larry (Lonnie) Thamert, Bloomington, Ill; Linda (John)Taylor, Portland, OR; Bonnie (Peter) Johnson, Vancouver, WA; Barry (Heidi) Thamert, West Valley City; Benny (Sunna) Thamert, Vancouver, WA; 21 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; brother and sister, William (Virg) Nunley, Murray; Mary Mitchel, Weatherford, TX. Preceded in death by parents; also Jessie D. Smith; granddaughter, Cheryise Simar; brothers and sisters, Tom Nunley, Joe Nunley, and John Nunley, and Lavon Shaw.
A memorial service to celebrate Angie's life will be held on March 28th at 3 p.m. at Grace Community Church, in Apache Junction, AZ. A fellowship to follow service.
