Our loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother, Leo Wilbur Powell, 81, passed away peacefully March 25, 2001.

He was born February 20, 1920 in Rockport, Utah, the oldest child of Wilbur Morgan Powell and Bertha Lucile Gibbons Powell. He was raised on a ranch in Upton, Summit County, Utah, and graduated from North Summit High School. He attended Utah State University and married Kathryn Hoffman in the Logan Temple on May 26, 1942. He worked as a highway engineer for the Utah Department of Transportation,

retiring in 1984.

He was active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held numerous positions as a member of the Garden Heights South Ward for many years. He served with his wife in the California Los Angeles mission at the Family History Center. During his retirement he was a dedicated genealogist.

He is survived by his wife, Kathryn, Salt Lake City, UT and children; David Leo (Linda) North Salt Lake, UT; Eloise Carlston (Jan Fraser) Sandy, UT; Rosemary Jorgensen (Robert Duane) Bountiful, UT; Diane Degner (Norman) Alder, MT; Edward Wilbur (Lisa) Ft. Collins, CO; and Jeffrey Grant (Barbara) Salt Lake City, UT. Leo is also survived by three brothers and two sisters; Roy G., Dale G., Gene G., Bernice Bingham, and Rhea Law. He is the proud grandfather of 21 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Matthew David Powell.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, March 28, 2001 in the LDS chapel at 2220 East Fisher Lane (2935 South). Friends and family may visit Tuesday evening, March 27, 2001, between hours of 6 - 8 p.m. at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, 3401 South Highland Drive or at the church from 10 - 11 a.m. prior to services on Wednesday. Interment will be at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park.
