How would you feel if you risked your life for a cause and the symbol of what you fought for was treated lightly or disrespected? The U.S. States flag is one of these emblems.

This problem was brought to my attention when, before an assembly, some cheerleaders at a local junior high school were twirling the flag around and letting it touch the ground. Also, when I watch the news, I cringe when I see people, in protest, rip and burn our flag. I am disappointed in our American public. Brave men and women risk their lives every day to keep our rights intact.

I think that we all need to respect our flag more. It is not only a piece of cloth, but also a representation of the lives of the people who served our country.
