GYMNASTICS: For the first time in school history, two Utes have tied for the regular season national "title" on an event. Sophomore Theresa Kulikowski and junior Shannon Bowles each finished the regular season with a 9.940 regional qualifying score to tie for first in the national rankings. Both gymnasts missed last season with injuries. Kulikowski tied for the NCAA balance beam championship in 1999 and Bowles placed fourth on the beam in both 1998 and 1999.
Brigham Young
SOFTBALL: Maryon Wallentine and Ariel Capra combined to throw a one-hit shutout as Brigham Young University beat Utah Valley State College 8-0 Tuesday.
BASKETBALL: BYU forward Mekeli Wesley is one of 11 seniors selected to the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) College All-Star Team, the NABC announced.
The 11 seniors will compete in the NABC Roundball Challenge presented by Ocean Spray pitting the NABC College All-Stars against the Harlem Globetrotters in a competitive game Friday at 7 p.m. at the Target Center.
VOLLEYBALL: The BYU men's volleyball team remained the No. 1 team in the nation in this week's USA Today/AVCA Coaches Poll, as well as Volleyball Magazine's Top-10 poll, despite splitting matches last weekend against No. 5 Long Beach State. BYU will travel to UNLV for a three-game baseball series starting this Thursday. The Cougars are one game out with a 5-4 record in the Mountain West Conference. BYU's second-best starting pitcher, Ryan Adams, is out for a couple of weeks with a broken hand. BYU, now 14-13 overall, plays at UNLV, 12-17 and 4-5, beginning Thursday and Friday at 7 p.m. (PST) and Saturday at 2 p.m. (PST). However, the Cougars will be without the services of Ryan Adams, 5-2, 3.24, who suffered a broken bone in his throwing hand.
The probable starter for BYU's Thursday game with the Rebels will likely be Nate Fernley, 8-1, 2.59, who has been the lead-off pitcher most of the season.
Utah State
ATHLETIC HONOR: Utah State gymnast Tina Ellis was named the university's athlete of the week.
VOLLEYBALL: Utah State women's volleyball coach Burt Fuller has announced the hiring of Matt Johnson as an assistant coach. Johnson will work with the middle blockers to formulate blocking schemes during the season.
MEN'S BASKETBALL: Utah State will hold its annual basketball banquet on Thursday, April 19, at 6:30 p.m., at the CopperMill Restaurant in Logan. The cost is $20 per person.

Weber State
GOLF: Weber State's men's golf team finished sixth at the George Buzzini Sr./Stanislaus Golf Invitational. The 'Cats had a team total of 948.
Host team CS Stanislaus won its own tournament with a 54-hole total of 909, 12 strokes ahead of conference rival Grand Canyon at 921. Western Washington was third (925), followed by CS Bakersfield (937), CS San Marcos (946), St. Mary's (947) and Weber State (948). Weber State freshman Ryan Pugsley was the low finisher for the Wildcats.
