Gordon Hopkins, loving husband, father, and grandfather passed away Sunday March 25, 2001 due to complications from a stroke.
He was born on June 10, 1924 in Ogden, Utah, a son of Fredrick Wellington and Laura Aston Hopkins. Gordon married the love of his life, Vada Hawks on December 22, 1946. Their sealing in the Salt Lake Temple ensures their love will last through eternity. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. Colorado during World War II and saw action in the South Pacific.
He attended Ames Iowa State College and Weber State College. Gordon worked many years at the Ogden Union Railway Depot and American Stores, where he later retired. A devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Gordon served in many positions including, stake missionary, member of the bishopric, and ordinance worker in the Bountiful Temple. Gordon had an appreciation for the beauties of nature and enjoyed working in his yard and attending to his flowers. His greatest joy in life was his association with family, friends and neighbors. He especially cherished the time spent with his grandchildren.
Survived by his wife, Vada; four children: Tamara Nielsen; Deborah (Montie) King; Randy G. (Jan) Hopkins; Gregory L. (Kelli) Hopkins; 16 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; brother, Harold (Geri) Creer.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 31, 2001 at 12:30 p.m. at the North Canyon 2nd Ward Chapel, 3350 South 100 East, Bountiful. Friends may call Friday evening from 6 - 9 p.m. at the Russon Brothers Bountiful Mortuary, 295 North Main and again Saturday morning from 11:15- 12:15 p.m. at the church. Interment-Memorial Gardens of the Wasatch, 1718 Combe Road, Ogden, UT.
