Apparently even the stork keeps visiting hours.

A prisoner at the Oxbow Jail gave birth Monday. The birth is believed to be the first at a Salt Lake County Jail.

The inmate, 36, delivered a boy just before 3 p.m.

Because nature took its course "at a fast pace," according to a sheriff's office statement, there was no time to get the inmate to the hospital. Sgt. Raelene Eppard took control of the situation and used what resources were available to her to deliver the baby.

A shoelace was used to tie the umbilical cord.
