PHILADELPHIA (AP) — The case file on a Philadelphia police commander's alcohol-related traffic accident and alleged cover-up was stolen from the department, Police Commissioner John F. Timoney said.
"We don't have the original," Timoney said during an interview with WPHT-AM that was videotaped and shown Thursday on WCAU-TV. He said the file was taken by someone within the department.
It wasn't clear if officials had copies of any of the missing information. Police officials didn't immediately return calls seeking comment Thursday.
Timoney said the file contained details of an investigation into the alleged cover-up of a 1998 accident involving Capt. James J. Brady, the homicide unit's commander. Brady was removed from that post after details of the alleged cover-up were reported Sunday in The Philadelphia Inquirer.
