The Utah Department of Transportation has begun work to demolish and rebuild a problematic bridge that funnels traffic on westbound I-80 to Salt Lake City International Airport.

UDOT closed the ramp Tuesday. It will remain closed until the $2.5 million reconstruction project is completed sometime this fall.

The portion of North Temple that splits off and goes beneath the airport ramp will be closed until April 12 at 9 p.m.

From I-15, motorists can reach the airport by taking I-80 to the Redwood Road exit and using the northern leg of North Temple, which will remain open between downtown and the airport. Or, motorists can take westbound I-80 to 5600 West, exit there and take eastbound I-80 to the airport.

From Redwood Road, motorists also can take North Temple to the airport. The work will not affect airport access from I-215.
