Obituary: David Gerald Snyder, Sr.

Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, David Gerald Snyder, Sr. passed away Feb. 28, 2001 in Provo, Utah following a brief illness surrounded by his family who loved him dearly.

He was born November 2, 1937 in Springville, Utah, the son of David Everett and Louise Mower Snyder.

Dave grew up in Provo with his mother, siblings, and grand-parents, Percy and Martha Mower. He graduated from Provo High in 1956, lettering in three sports and sang in choral groups earning an opera scholarship, he also served in the U.S. Marine Corp. He married Myrna Larson on July 19, 1957.

They had five children, Dave, Sandy, Joe, Jared, and Marcella. They later divorced. He married Sharon Silver Nelson on October 4, 1985 in Orem, Utah. They were later sealed in the Provo LDS Temple on December 12, 1986. Sharon brought her six children into David's life; Heather, Holly, Hiram, Nell, Amber, and Dan.

Dave was a "master carpenter" by profession. He worked construction for many years and took great pride in a job well done. He greatly enjoyed the out of doors, fishing, hunting, and camping. His hobbies included gourmet cooking, painting, making custom knives, and karate. He had a beautiful tenor voice and loved to sing. He held the office of High Priest in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was very active and served in various church callings through the years, most recently he served as a stake missionary and in the Stake Mission Presidency, and as a Sunday School teacher for the 16-17 year olds. His greatest pride and joy and happiness are his wife, children and grandchildren.

He will be greatly missed by his wife Sharon and his children, Dave Snyder, Sandy (Wayde) Bennett, Joe (Jodi) Snyder, Jared (Corbie) Snyder, Marcella Snyder, Heather (Lynn) Vance, Holly (Kevin) Beard, Hiram (Alice) Nelson, Nell (Cody) Atkinson, Amber (Kip) Callahan, and Daniel Nelson, 26 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, and brothers and sisters, Ron (Barbara) Clark, Betty Clark, Jim (Dorene) Hiatt, Roy Snyder, Sharon (Vern) Spencer, Darrell (Sharon) Snyder, Vickie (Bill) Miller, and Michelle Snyder.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters LaRae Snyder Groesbeck and Karen Clark Elliott.

Family and friends may call at Berg Mortuary, 185 East Center Street, Provo, on Sunday evening, March 4, 2001, from 6-8 p.m. Graveside services will be held on Monday, March 5, 2001 at 2 p.m., a viewing to be held one hour prior to services at the Larkin Sunset Gardens, 10600 S. 1700 E., Sandy.

Interment will be held at the Larkin Sunset Gardens in Sandy.

He was a good man.
