Sykora, Arnott lead Devils to blowout of Hurricanes

Goalie Brodeur extends 30-win streak to 6 seasons

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — Petr Sykora and Jason Arnott returned to the lineup and combined with linemate Patrik Elias for five goals and 11 points as the New Jersey Devils beat the Carolina Hurricanes 7-3 on Friday night.

Sykora and Elias had two goals apiece and Arnott, Alexander Mogilny and Pierre Dagenais had one in the Devils' biggest offensive output since a 7-1 win over Philadelphia on Jan. 18.

Goaltender Martin Brodeur also took part, assisting on Arnott's goal. Brodeur made 26 saves and extended his streak of 30-or-more victories to six straight seasons.

Former Chicago Blackhawk Tony Esposito holds the NHL record of seven straight 30-win seasons, while Patrick Roy of Colorado and Jacques Plante turned in six. Roy's streak is current.

Jeff O'Neill, Martin Gelinas and Sandis Ozolinsh scored for Carolina.

THRASHERS 4, PANTHERS 3: Donald Audette and Tomi Kallio scored in a 1:52 span of the third period as Atlanta snapped a six-game winless streak.

Ray Ferraro and Ladislav Kohn scored first-period goals for the Thrashers, who ended a six-game road losing streak.

Atlanta goalie Norm Maracle, making his second straight start, had 36 saves.

Pavel Bure, Serge Payer and Len Barrie scored for Florida, which lost its sixth straight.

PENGUINS 7, RANGERS 5: Mario Lemieux scored the first of three Pittsburgh goals within 1:02 of the second period, and added another goal and two assists as the Penguins extended their winning streak against the Rangers to six games.

OILERS 3, WILD 1: Rem Murray had two goals and Ryan Smyth scored the game-winner midway through the third period as Edmonton extended its winning streak five games.

The Oilers won five in a row for the first time since the 1997-98 season.

Antti Laaksonen scored in the second period for Minnesota, which is winless in six games.

Tommy Salo stopped 22 shots and earned his 28th victory for the Oilers. Jamie McLennan, a native of Edmonton, made 26 saves.

RED WINGS 2, COYOTES 2: Joe Juneau scored with 1:44 left in regulation as Phoenix salvaged a tie with Detroit.

The tie extended the Red Wings' unbeaten streak to 13 games. Detroit is 10-0-3 in the streak, which started with a 3-2 overtime victory at Columbus on Jan. 31.

CANUCKS 3, BLUES 2 (OT): Mattias Ohlund scored with 1:20 left in overtime as the Vancouver Canucks snapped a four-year home losing streak against the St. Louis Blues.

Ohlund pounced on a loose puck in the high slot, skated in all alone and snapped a wrist shot through the legs of St. Louis goalie Brent Johnson.

STARS 5, MIGHTY DUCKS 2: Mike Modano and Jere Lehtinen each had a goal and two assists and Brett Hull reached the 30-goal mark for the 11th time in his career as the Dallas Stars beat the Anaheim Mighty Ducks.
