Monte Vista Elementary students, teachers and parents walked and hopped inside the school Wednesday to raise money for people awaiting organ transplants. The hourlong activity drew more than 800 participants and raised more than $2,000 for Common Thread's Transplant House. The house provides a free or low-cost place where transplant recipients, donors and families can stay before and after the operation. The money that was raised will be presented to Common Thread today in the name of Adam Asay, a leukemia patient whose mother teaches first grade at Monte Vista. The school also is setting up a Common Thread account at First Security Bank for future donations.
