WEST VALLEY CITY — Police have arrested and charged one man and a juvenile with attempted homicide.
The intended victim was able to escape because the gun jammed, police say.
The two have been charged with attempted criminal homicide, aggravated kidnapping and aggravated robbery. Investigators were looking for a third man today.
The incident began Monday when police responded to a reported robbery at an apartment. The detective told the four men at the apartment the evidence showed it was an inside job.
After the officer left, three of the men accused the fourth of stealing their drugs, money and guns and tried to shoot him, said Sgt. Jim Crowley. The victim was forced to get on his knees and a gun was put to his head, and the trigger was pulled.
The gun jammed, however, and the man escaped, police say.
One of the men was arrested later that day. A second was arrested Tuesday. Investigators have been in contact with the third man who at first promised to turn himself in. The man informed officers on Thursday however, that he changed his mind and didn't want to go to jail, said Crowley.
At one point during his conversation with police, Crowley said the man asked, "What if (the alleged victim) doesn't show up to testify?"
The question was not delivered in a threatening tone, said Crowley, but officers are now worried about protecting the witness.
