Lynnda Wangsgard, director of the Weber County Library System, has earned the 2001 Athena Award from the Women in Business Committee of the Chamber Ogden/Weber.

Wangsgard joined the system in 1984 when the organization was $1 million in debt, staff had voluntarily taken 20 percent salary cuts and services and hours were scaled back.

Within two years, the debt was gone and the system developed plans for renovations and expansions. Three branches have been added, in Roy and Huntsville, as well as a law library in Ogden. Many volunteers also have joined the system during her tenure.

The committee nominates and selects the award winner annually based on professional achievement, community service, assisting women in attaining professional excellence and leadership skills.
