Salt Lake-based Medical Discoveries Inc. said it soon will receive a Japanese patent for its system and method for carrying out sterilization.

The patent has priority over a 1996 U.S. patent titled "Apparatus For Electrolyzing Fluids," which was the second in a group of patents in the United States and elsewhere that defines the proprietary electrolysis technology used by MDI.

When the Japanese patent is issued, the company will have nine patents relating to its proprietary electrolysis devices, methods and related products and applications.
