A man convicted of participating in the armed robberies of two Utah County credit unions is seeking a new trial.

Daniel Card, 31, Orem, asked U.S. District Judge Dee Benson Friday to set aside the December jury verdict because prosecutors failed to give timely notice of information about a police officer who investigated the case.

Card's attorney, Bel-Ami de Montreux, said the officer's credibility had been "questioned" in a separate case and that made his testimony in Card's trial suspect.

Benson took the matter under advisement but indicated he was reluctant to grant Card's motion, saying the "officer in question was only a minor player in this drama."

Card and 32-year-old William Leon of Provo were found guilty of the October 1996 robbery of the Alpine Credit Union in Orem and the December 1996 robbery of the Beehive Credit Union in Provo.

Prosecutors said Card took about $17,500 from the two credit unions and used a sawed-off shotgun in the commission of the crime.
