"Brethren, the world is in need of your help. There are feet to steady, hands to grasp, minds to encourage, hearts to inspire and souls to save."

Danger lurks amid the storms of life. Men, like boats, find themselves stranded and facing destruction. Who will leave behind the comforts of home and family to man the lifeboats?

"When the Master ministered among men, he called fishermen at Galilee to leave their nets and follow him . . . Tonight he issues a call to each of us to 'come join the ranks.' "

There is an odd saying of my vintage: "Wishing will make it so." It's not true. The Lord expects our thinking, our action, our labors, our testimonies and our devotion. Unfortunately, there are those who have departed from the track. Let us help them.

"The passage of time has not altered the capacity of the Redeemer to change men's lives — our lives and the lives of those with whom we labor. As he said to the dead Lazarus, so he says today: "Come forth. Come forth from the despair of doubt. Come forth from the sorrow of sin. Come forth from the death of disbelief. Come forth to a newness of life.' "

Acquire the language of the spirit. It is not learned from books nor acquired by reading and memorization. The language of the spirit comes to him who seeks to know God.

"Tonight I pray that all of us who hold the priesthood may sense our responsibilities and, as one, follow our leader — even the Lord Jesus Christ and his prophet, President Gordon B. Hinckley — to the rescue."
