Buddhists target Taliban

A Buddhist monk helps burn an effigy of Afghanistan's Taliban regime Saturday in Bombay, India, to protest the destruction of ancient statues. Despite pleas from an outraged world, the ruling Taliban regime has destroyed most of the ancient relics from its nation's pre-Islamic past. Taliban soldiers blasted away Saturday at two towering, ancient statues of Buddha hewn from a cliff face in central Bamiyan province in the third and fifth centuries.
