S.L. police seek clues in Circuit City shooting

Police were looking for two men Monday they believe shot and killed a Salt Lake man Saturday night in a Circuit City parking lot.

The 8:13 p.m. shooting left 21-year-old Todd Jay Koester dead in front of the Salt Lake electronics store, 2100 S. 724 East.

The only eyewitness to the crime, a friend who was in Koester's car during the shooting, has been unwilling to divulge details of the incident, Salt Lake Sgt. Fred Louis said.

Detectives are scratching their heads at this point, Louis said.

The two men suspected in the murder were last seen fleeing the scene in a gold or silver four-door Honda, Louis said.

No descriptions of the men were available Monday morning, and detectives will continue their interviews with the passenger.

"He's not saying much," Louis said. "That interview process is still going on."

Koester and the passenger were talking with the other carload of men before the slaying, but police couldn't confirm if an argument preceded the shooting, Louis said.

The attackers fled in the car, disregarding the passenger, who ran inside the Circuit City and yelled for employees to phone for help.

Louis said police are still not sure if the shooting was gang- or drug-related.

Anyone with information about the slaying should call Salt Lake City police at 799-3000 or 799-INFO.
