Obituary: Raymond D. Merrill

Raymond D. Merrill, age 93, passed away peacefully March 5, 2001 in Magna, Utah.

He was born February 22, 1908 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Daniel R. and Letty Miller Merrill. He married Dorothy L. Hoover June 21, 1932 in Park City, Utah; she died March 19, 1990.

Ray was the oldest living quarterback for BYU, and enjoyed the quarterback alumni gatherings. He served several times as president of the Magna Lion's Club, never missing a meeting in the many, many years he was a member. He also served as the Lion's District Governor. He was an avid golfer, and joined the Copper Golf Club when they still had oil and sand greens. He walked the golf course until he was ninety years old. He retired at 65 from Kennecott Copper after 30 years, and then sold real

estate until he was 75.

Survived by his children, Marilyn "Cookie" Coon, Gwen Arego, and George Merrill; sister, Irene Wilding; 10 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by his wife; parents; brother, Dr. Reed Merrill; sisters, Ruth Nelson and Letty Wakefield; and grandsons, Michael and Eddy Arego.

Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Sat., March 10, 2001 at the Magna East Stake Center, 2875 South 8000 West, where friends may call Saturday 11:30 a.m.- 12:45 p.m. Interment: Elysian Burial Gardens. Funeral
