2A boys basketball — Thursday scores

Quarterfinal games in the 2A high school boys state basketball tournament being played Thursday at Southern Utah University:

Gunnison 54, Millard 51

In the first major upset of the tournament the Bulldogs, a No. 4 seed, beat the Eagles, a No. 1 seed, behind 15 points by Aaron Harward.

Matt Holt, Carson Stevens and Matt Robinson had 14, 13 and 13 points

respectively to led the Eagles, but it wasn't enough to beat the Bulldogs.

Gunnison outscored the Eagles by 10 points in the third quarter and that

proved to be the difference.

South Sevier 53, Beaver 51

The Rams completed the first phase of

their title defense with the two-point victory over the Beavers.

Beaver trailed by as many as six in the second half and the fought back

and tied it on a jumper by Craig Foster with 10 seconds left.

Reggie Parsons had six of his game-high 17 points in the extra session.

Bret Albrecht led the Beavers with 16 points and Wes Marshall had 11.

Jaron Maynes and Aaron Owens had 13 and 10 points for South Sevier.

Cameron Clark poured in a game-high 28 points

and Kevin Cox added 10 more as the Templars beat North Summit.

With the scored tied at 32-32 at the half, the Templars outscored the

Braves 16-8 in the third quarter.

Jake Downard led the Braves with 11 points and Jesse Calder and Adam

Enterprise 51, North Sevier 40

Enterprise got balanced scoring from Rance Pickering, Ryan Elster and Tyson Holyoak with 20, 14 and 10 points, respectively, as the Wolves avenged an earlier loss to North Sevier, the tournament favorite.

Talin Zimmer scored 17 points.

"The guys really stepped up and layed tough team 'D' against Zimmer,"

Enterprise coach Gordon Dotson said.

Enterprise exploded to an 11-0 lead and held it thoughout most of the

game. North Sevier managed to cut it to five late in the game but couldn't

get any closer.

Enterprise advances to the semifinals to play Manti at 9 p.m. Friday.
