Provo schools need mentors, tutors

Concept Key, a program providing care for school-age children during summer and after school, needs individuals to serve as mentors and tutors.

The children involved with Concept Key are given access to a wide range of educational activities.

Applications are available through Provo School District's Lights for Learning program. Volunteers are asked to donate one hour each week between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Other volunteer opportunities in Utah County include:

Helping prevent substance abuse. The Gathering Place needs volunteers to give presentations on drugs and alcohol. Social, communication and public speaking skills are helpful. One hour minimum is asked on a weekly basis. Volunteers must be at least 18 years old.

Being a tutor with an adult literacy program. Read to Succeed in Payson is seeking volunteers to help adults with basic literacy skills. Volunteers with experience teaching English to speakers of other languages are especially needed. Training is provided.

Sharing talents in Alzheimer's unit. Oakview Living Center in Provo needs volunteers to help in the Alzheimer's unit. Volunteers provide sensory stimulation to residents through dancing, singing, visiting with residents or playing musical instruments.
