Centenarian

Milford N. Hess of the Twin Falls 5th Ward, Twin Falls Idaho Stake, celebrated his 105th birthday on Feb. 6, 2001, having now lived during three centuries. He was born in Bloomington, Idaho, the 10th son of Jacob and Hannah Thornock Hess. He has lived in Idaho most of his life and was an active farmer in Filer until retiring at age 98. During World War II, he was employed building barracks for the U.S. Navy in Hawaii. Brother Hess married Marie Reider, who died in 1970, and they have six children. Brother Hess now has 18 grandchildren, many great-granchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.

Athletics

Senior Lani Tuitavuki and junior Nancy Fanene won championships at the 2001 California State Girls Wrestling Championships in Vallejo, Calif., on Feb. 3. Their efforts in their first year of wrestling boosted San Leandro High School to a second-place finish in the 25-school competition. They each pinned all four of their opponents in the tournament. Lani is a member of the Oakland 8th Ward and Nancy is a member of the San Leandro 1st Ward, both of the San Leandro California Stake.
