- Jessie Evelyn Oldroyd passed away March 29, 2001 of causes incident to age.
She was born Feb 5, 1907 in Fountain Green, UT to John Jolley and Mary Ann Morgan Oldroyd. Jes-sie attended school in Fountain Green until her family mov-ed to Salt Lake City where she graduated with honors from high school. She then completed two years at Snow College in Ephraim earning a teaching certificate, and taught for sev-eral years. In 1950 she graduated from Brigham Young University with a Bachelor of Arts Degree, teaching in Fountain Green, Sevier County and the Granite School District, Salt Lake City. She taught three generations of students.
In service to her Heavenly Father, Jessie was a life-long member of the choir, directed the choir and taught in all the auxiliaries in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
The arts brought great joy to Jessie's life. She was blessed with a beautiful soprano voice and played the piano with versatility. Her myriad interests included devotion to her love of gardening and the art of creating charming porcelain figures. She was a writer of note, having published poems, stories and articles in the Pyramid Newspaper, The Saga and others.
In August of 2000 Jessie, then 93 years young, was honored for her life of service to and for her city, its people, schools and church by being chosen Grand Marshall for the Lamb Day celebration, and filling the honor with dignity.
She was preceded in death by her parents; infant sisters, Fanny S, Ora M.; brothers, John T., C Leonard, Wm. Milton, Merrill Lee; and sisters, Mary J. (Livingston), Luella Catherine (Mower). She is survived by many nieces and nephews.
Viewing will be 6-8 p.m. Mon. and one hour prior to services Tues. April 3, 1 p.m. in the Fountain Green Chapel. Interment, Fountain Green Cemetery.
