- Winona Burrows Vogel, 93, of Ogden, died Thursday, March 29, 2001 of a heart attack, while visiting her grand-daughter in Logan-dale, Nevada.

She was born March 13, 1908 in Ogden, a daughter of James and Lydia Winters Burrows. On June 24, 1926, Win-ona married Dr. George W. Vogel in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. George prece-ded her in death May 8, 2000. She graduated from Og-den High School. Winona was an active member of the Malan's Peak (Ogden 43rd) LDS Ward. She was a member of the Child Culture Club, Daughters of Utah Pioneers, and a past president of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Utah Dental Association. She and her husband spent the past 40 winters in Palm Springs, CA where she organized and conducted a novelty band, "The Peppy Poppy Cats" and they performed before large groups for many years.

In the early 40's, Winona had her own radio program on KLO where she sang contemporary songs every Sunday evening. She was a great hostess and entertainer all of her life. She never lost her zest for life. In mid-life, Winona took up painting and became an accomplished artist, winning many awards.

Surviving are her daughter, Carla (Robert) Vogel, Ogden; loving foster daughter, Lola (Grant) Sheffield; 10 grandchildren, Paula Fuller, David Vogel, Marie Loveless, Ronald Vogel, Rhonda Hills, James Vogel, Eric V. Vogel, Chris Vogel, George Vogel, John Vogel; and many foster grandchildren. Winona was preceded in death by her husband, George; one son, Dr. George B. Vogel; and four brothers.

Services will be Mon. 1 p.m. at Lindquist's Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. Friends may call at the mortuary Mon. 12-12:45 p.m. Interment, Lindquist's Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Primary Children's Medical Center, 100 N. Medical Dr, Salt Lake City, UT 84113.
