East High School's long-running young playwrights' program, "Take Five," will be showcased April 4-7 at 7:30 p.m. in the school's Little Theater, 840 S. 1300 East.
The evening of student-produced, written and directed one-act plays has been coordinated by instructors Barbara Murdock and Steve Schmid. Student producers for the project are Colin Elliot and Emily Clawson.
The five plays being presented this year are "The Date," by Romney Stevens; "Keeper of the Flame," by Jacob Floyd; "Flawed Love," by Jessica Cohen; "Dancing in the Basement," by Kristen Hyatt; and "Faade Island," by Emily Clawson.
Each school year, students in Murdock's creative-writing classes are assigned to write one-act plays, from which five are selected to be produced the following semester. The students themselves are involved in all aspects of the productions — auditions, scenery, etc., — giving them hands-on experience in all facets of stage production.
Tickets, priced at $6 for adults and $4 for students, will be available at the door.
