If heaven is really filled with cherubic angels playing harps, Thursday night will be heaven on Earth in Salt Lake City.
Dutch harpist Gwyneth Wentink will perform Thursday, April 5, in the Gardner Concert Hall on the University of Utah campus at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are available through ArtTix or may be purchased at the door.
Wentink began her career early, with her first lesson on a Celtic harp at the age of 5. She quickly found success in her new ambition, and by the time she was 8, Wentink was featured as soloist with the Netherlands National Youth Orchestra. By the time she was 10, she had performed for Queen Beatrix.
Wentink continued capturing first prizes in prestigious competitions, such as the 1998 International Harp Competition in Jerusalem and the 1998 Torneo Internationale di Musica in Rome. At the age of 17, Wentink won first prize in the 1999 Young Concert Artists International Auditions and was the first solo harpist to win a place on the Young Concert Artists roster.
Wentink recently made her New York concerto debut in the Young Concert Artists Series at Alice Tully Hall in Manhattan, and comes to Salt Lake City as part of the 2000-2001 concert season.
