DULUTH, Ga. (AP) — A pair of BellSouth Classic champions are in the running for another title, with Scott McCarron tied for the lead and Phil Mickelson a shot back after Saturday's second round.

McCarron, the 1997 winner, shot a 5-under 67 despite a trip to the pond at No. 18. He shared the top spot with Chris DiMarco at 9-under 135 on the TPC at Sugarloaf. DiMarco also had a 67.

Mickelson, the defending champion, managed a 66 during an adventurous round in which he twice bailed himself out by chipping in from the fringe of the green. He was alone in third at 8 under.

The tournament, delayed a day by rain, will now become survival of the fittest. The final two rounds are scheduled for Sunday, a 36-hole marathon covering some 20 miles over one of the hilliest courses on the PGA Tour.

LEGENDS OF GOLF: At St. Augustine, Fla., defending champions Andy North and Jim Colbert shot a 13-under 59 in best-ball play to take a three-stroke lead after the first round of the Legends of Golf.

Tommy Aaron and Don Bies were second overall after a 62, and led the Legendary Division for players age 59-69. Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus, the designers of The King and The Bear Course at the World Golf Village, opened with a 66 in the event shortened to 36 holes after play was washed out by rain Friday.

ARGENTINA OPEN: At Buenos Aires, Sweden's Carl Pettersson shot a 3-under 67 for a share of the third-round lead with Argentina's Angel Cabrera in the Argentina Open.

Pettersson and Cabrera, both winless on the PGA European Tour, had 9-under 201 totals on The Jockey Club course.

Spain's Tomas Jess MuNoz (67) was a stroke back, and Italy's Costantino Rocca (65), Argentina's Ricardo Gonzalez (69) and England's Graeme Storm (69) followed at 203.
