Stephen S. Benton, Jr. 80, of 186 Cranberry Rd., Pine Twp, Grove City, PA. since 1993, passed away at his residence after a sudden illness on Thurs. March 29, 2001 at 11:30 a.m.

Born at Culp, PA. Blair County on August 24, 1920 the son of Stephen S. and Zelma Yenter Benton. Married to Lauretta Wilson Benton on September 18, 1943, she preceded him in death. Mr. Benton retired in 1982 from the Slippery Rock Area Schools where he had taught Social Science. Mr. Benton had taught for a number of years at the Victory Joint High School in Irwin Township, Venango County. He was a member of the Ebenezer Presbyterian Church, located at 2426 Scrubgrass Rd. Grove City, PA. where he was currently a Deacon of the Church, Trustee and was the Sunday School teacher of the Christian Friends Class. Mr. Benton and his wife Lauretta had done missionary work in Mt. Pleasant, Utah where they resided for a few years. While there he became a member of the Mt. Pleasant Presbyterian Church and was Clerk of Session and was also Ordained Elder of the church and was a Commission Lay Pastor. While working in the Missionary field in Mt. Pleasant he taught at the

Wasatch Academic School. He enjoyed golfing, reading, computer and crossword puzzles.

Surviving: Stephen S. and fiancee Cookie Shebib, of Farmington, Michigan, Michael F. Benton of Forest, Ohio, Jon F. and wife Susan K. Benton of Brookville, PA. Timothy O and wife Heidi Benton of Bellevue, Washington, Mrs. Chris Cynthia J. DeCorse of Cortland, NY, Roger B. and wife Brenda Benton of Slippery Rock, PA, Mrs. Jeff Jennie R. Lovett of Wesley, PA. Also survived by 19 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren and a special friend Lousie Boyd also of Grove City PA. Preceded in death by his parents his wife and son Gary Benton, one sister, Elda

Services to be held at the Ebenezer Presbyterian Church, 2426 Scrubgrass Rd., Grove City, PA. Sunday, April 1, 2001 at 3:00 p.m. with the Rev. Rrobert Huck, Pastor of the church will officiate.
