Walter Talbot has been elected by fellow board members to serve as president of the Utah Transit Authority.

Talbot, of Spanish Fork, was appointed to the board in 1998 and previously served on the board, 1988-91. He has chaired the agency's finance and operations committee.

Talbot replaces Jeff Hawker, who resigned in February to accept the position of rail projects coordinator for West Valley City, one of several Salt Lake Valley communities interested in a light-rail extension.
