Centerville
The City Council will discuss a possible challenge to the 2000 Census count for Centerville at a meeting Tuesday night at City Hall.
City officials estimate the number is 10 percent below what it should be, according to the city manager's summary of Tuesday's agenda.
The 2000 Census put Centerville at 14,585, while city leaders estimated it should have been 16,000. A 1996 population estimate put the city at 14,382 residents. The city's 1990 population count was 11,500.
If Centerville challenges the census count, it will join the ranks of several other Utah cities contesting the numbers, including Sandy. West Bountiful has also said it may challenge the count, which gave the city an increase of seven people in the past decade.

(AP) — Sarah Gardner resisted seeking help from the Davis County Food Bank.
"It's definitely a pride thing," she said. "But when you're looking at your 2-year-old, and there's no milk in the house, what else do you do?"
She is one of 48,000 residents who require emergency food assistance each month, in addition to food stamps or other programs. About 70 percent have jobs, but still can't make ends meet. Others are elderly or have fallen on hard times, with sickness or disabilities pushing them into need.
The Utah Food Bank, which distributes food to more than 200 programs statewide, reports requests for food have more than doubled since 1996. The food bank met an unprecedented 873,000 requests last year.
Experts say the increase primarily is due to low wages and rising living costs. More recently, rising utility costs have further pinched budgets.
Food pantries report more people facing expiration of their welfare benefits.
