SOUTH SALT LAKE — A man who was apparently worried about protecting himself on the street was pulled over Sunday morning.

The man was a passenger in a car that was pulled over about 8:30 a.m. near 3300 South and 700 East, said South Salt Lake officer Darin Sweeten.

The driver was arrested for DUI and found to be in possession of a stiletto knife. When officers checked the passenger they found he was wearing a police-issue bulletproof vest, Sweeten said.

When asked why he was wearing the vest, Sweeten said the man told officers, "I'm afraid of all the violence here in Salt Lake."

Police seized the vest but did not arrest the man. The investigation in continuing.
