SPANISH FORK — A new ordinance passed Tuesday bans fireworks near a wooded subdivision or open fields.
The ordinance specifically bans fireworks near The Oaks, a wooded subdivision south of the municipal Spanish Oaks Golf Course, and within 100 feet of any open field or vacant lot.
"We're trying to prevent fires," Police Chief Dee Rosenbaum said. The ordinance, which went into effect immediately, seeks to protect forests, range and watershed lands within the city, noting that the summer has been hot and dry. The ordinance remains in effect through the rest of the year.
