Al Johnson, 20, a University of Utah football player, has been charged with possession of drugs, a third-degree felony, punishable with a $5,000 fine and up to five years in jail.

On June 1, a "large quantity" of Ecstacy was found at Johnson's apartment, charges filed Tuesday in 3rd District Court state. Johnson allegedly retrieved the Ecstacy from underneath a mattress.

Johnson told authorities he received the Ecstacy from a friend who asked him to hold it for him, charges state.

Utah coach Ron McBride has suspended Johnson from the team. Johnson, a 6-foot-3, 245-pound defensive lineman from San Diego, played sparingly last season. He had two tackles on the year.
