PROVO — Nearly 700 local Boy Scouts, their leaders and volunteers plan tours of historic sites as part of the National Scout Jamboree later this month.

The jamboree will be in Frederiksberg, Va., from July 24 to Aug. 2. Scouts from the Utah National Parks Council, based in Provo, will tour historic sites in New York, Washington, D.C., and Philadelphia, Scout leaders say.

The Scouts will meet Thursday for the first time as Jamboree troops in a three-day encampment for pre-Jamboree training, Scout spokesman Ron Nyman said. Scouts from the Utah National Parks Council will camp at Willow Park west of Lehi for the event. Fifteen troops will attend the National Jamboree, he said.
