Recently, the Granite Board of Education voted to eliminate elementary school librarians to balance the budget if the Granite Teachers Association requests a salary increase of more than 1.4 percent.
I thought that hostage-taking was illegal in this state. In my opinion this is what is taking place. I feel the librarians are being held hostage to the negotiation process. It is as if the school board is saying unless the teachers ask for less than a 1.4 percent salary increase we will do away with your librarians.
If the librarians are cut and transferred to other jobs, who do you think the ultimate losers will be — the children in the schools.
As a grandparent with grandchildren about to enter the district, I am opposed to eliminating the librarians. Join with me. Your voice needs to be heard.
