PROVO — The Provo Angels returned from a nine-game road trip this week a somewhat different team from the one that left.

A flurry of transactions during that time, including the departure of second baseman Maximo Pichardo to Single-A Cedar Rapids and the addition of 18-year-old catcher Jeff Mathis, gave the Angels a new look on Wednesday night when they hosted the Great Falls Dodgers.

No matter. The results remain the same.

Provo continued its hot start with a 7-0 blanking of the Dodgers before a crowd of 1,507 at Larry H. Miller Field. The Angels have won seven of their last eight games and own a Pioneer League-best 20-5 record. Great Falls fell to 12-13.

J.D. Dennis and Cliff Smith combined to two-hit the Dodgers. Dennis (3-0) pitched seven strong innings and struck out eight without allowing a walk, while Smith closed out the game and did not give up a hit.

Sam Swenson, a University of Utah product, and Greg Porter, who is a football player at Texas A&M, both belted home runs for the Angels. Every Provo player recorded one hit except for Nick Gorneault.

The Angels posted a 7-2 mark on their recently completed road swing through Casper, Great Falls and Medicine Hat. Provo hosts Great Falls tonight and Friday before opening a three-game series at Ogden beginning Saturday.
