- Alta Olive Brown Neilson, beloved mother and grandmother, quietly left his life at age 94 on July 7, 2001.

She was born May 4, 1907 in North Ogden, UT to Thomas B. and Susan Dudman Brown. She was the youngest of 12 children and was the last living.

She learned hard work when she was young, and worked long hours with her husband on their farm.

She married Thomas Herman Neilson

on June 7, 1928 in North Ogden, UT and their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. After their marriage, she moved to Taylor, Utah and resided there until just prior to her death.

Alta was an active member of the LDS Church and served many years in the ward Primary and Relief Society, and was president of both organizations. She also taught in Sunday School and other organizations. She served as a faithful Visiting Teacher until the time of her death. She was a lifelong member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers.

She made beautiful doilies, quilts, and afghans for her children and grandchildren.

Her hands were never idle. She took a lot of pride in her yard and had many beautiful flowers.

Alta loved her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, and always remembered them on their birthdays.

She is survived by her five children, Reed (Leanne) Neilson, Layton, UT; Cleah (Donald) Fowler, American Fork, UT; Vern (Marilyn) Neilson, Bountiful, UT; Ann (Dee) Halliday, Liberty, UT; Linda (Mike) Garfield, Thornton, CO; 23 grandchildren, 52 great grandchildren, and two great, great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Herman Neilson, and one daughter-in-law, Beverly T. Neilson.

Funeral services will be held Friday, July 13, at 11 a.m., at the Taylor 3rd Ward Chapel, 2200 S. 4300 W., Taylor, UT. Friends may call Thursday, July 12, from 6-8 p.m. at Leavitt's Mortuary, 836 36th Street, Ogden and one hour prior to services at the chapel. Interment will be in the West Weber Cemetery.
