LeRoy Transfield, of Orem, was named the winner of the 23rd National Sculpture Competition held at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts in Philadelphia. The competition involved sculpting a figure from a live model over a five-day period. Transfield was selected from 15 competing artists.
Intrawest will host their first Art Walk in the Village of Solitude, at Solitude Mountain Resort, on Sunday, July 29, from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. The event will include work from 35 visual artists in painting, photography woodcarving, sculpture and jewelry. The Kanzeon Zen Center, 1274 E. South Temple, presents "Ink, Stone & Brush," an exhibit featuring the sumi-e paintings of Melody Moore, through July. There will be a reception for the artist on Saturday, July 21, from 7-9 p.m.
Art Access/VSA arts of Utah, 339 W. Pierpont, and the Arts Education Program of the Utah Arts Council will present a series of visual arts workshops for adults who are HIV positive or living with AIDS. Artist Bonnie Sucec will lead the workshops through September. Art from the workshop will be juried for exhibition at the UAC's Rio Gallery, Rio Grande Depot, during December.
