DENVER — Joseph P. Nacchio, chairman and chief executive officer of Qwest Communications International Inc., has been nominated by President Bush to serve on a telecommunications advisory committee.

Denver-based Qwest announced last week that Nacchio has been nominated to serve as vice chairman of the National Security Telecommunications Advisory Committee.

The group of 30 telecommunications and technology executives advises the president and White House leaders on policy and technical issues through several meetings held annually, Qwest said.

The nomination does not require Senate confirmation and the position is not expected to affect Nacchio's work at Qwest, company officials said.
