While his cousin, Boyd, was advancing to the State Amateur finals for the second straight year, Joseph Summerhays took the lead Saturday at the Salt Lake City Open at Bonneville Golf Course.

Summerhays, who earlier this summer teamed with his father, Bruce, to win the Champions Challenge, fired a 5-under-par 67 to take a one-shot lead over Mark Owen and amateur Brandon Hargett. Three pros, Milan Swilor, Steve Schneiter and Tom Johnson are tied at 69, while former PGA Tour regular Brad Sutterfield is another shot back at 70.

Clark Garso, senior Bob Betley and amateur Gary Berg all came in with 71s.

The leaders will tee off at appoximately 2:30 p.m. for today's final round at Wingpointe Golf Course. The winner will earn $3,000.

Flight leaders include Kevin Nitzel in A Flight with a net 65 and Brady Gibbs, Grant Hall, Alex Paice and Chris Perry in B Flight with net 65s.
