SHARE Obituary: Lorna Marie Bates Nordgren

Our loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and aunt, passed away June 30, 2001. She was 91.

She was born May 1, 1910 to Fredrich William and Dorthea Ma-tilda Petterson Bates in Erda, UT. On March 12, 1931, she mar-ried LeGrande "Lee" John Nord-gren in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They had two daughters, Shirley Joy Nordgren, Dorene Marie Nordgren Robins; and one son, David Frederick Nordgren.

Lorna loved her family, her many friends, and her pets. She enjoyed gardening and had a very "green thumb." She also loved music, and used to sing songs to her children when they were small. She played the piano a little. Lorna was a good seamstress and a very good cook. She was a big Jazz fan and loved watching and listening to the Jazz games. Lorna and Lee were rock hounds, and they often went out on trips to collect rocks. When Lorna was in her early 40s, she and Lee opened an Arctic Circle which they ran for three years, before selling it in 1953. After that, Lorna trained to be a nurse's aide and dental assistant. She was a dental assistant at Salt Lake Co. Hospital and later at University Hospital until she retired in her early 60s.

Lorna is survived by her three children; eight grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; three brothers, Cyrus, Glyndon, Dale; and sister, Clarice Parkinson.

Graveside services will be Tues. July 3, 2001, 10:30 a.m. at Larkin Sunset Gardens Cemetery/Mortuary, 10600 S. 1700 E, where a viewing will be held one hour prior to the graveside.
