As parents of four children we took the responsibility of health care, starting with prenatal and infant vitamins with pharmaceutical grade fluoride, then the purchase of fluoride tablets taken one a day through their teenage years. We also took care to demonstrate how to brush with fluoride toothpaste and floss their teeth. They did not have any cavities. We did not have soda pop as a part of their diet. Sugar products were a limited treat for them.
Now we have a group of health and dental professionals who insist that fluoride in the drinking water is the only way to prevent children from developing cavities. The problem with this is the so-called fluoride they want to use is hydrofluosilicic acid. It is a byproduct of phosphate fertilizer factories, a material the EPA requires to be removed from smokestacks to prevent the public from breathing it.
Some think that a filter will remove it from the water. Most filters will not. A reverse osmosis filter will come close but sends a lot of unused water down the sewer.
Another problem is the other 28 elements contained in hydrofluosilicic acid, such as phosphorus, arsenic, chromium mercury and lead, to list few that are not beneficial to the human body.
