ROMULUS, Mich. (AP) — A jet with 92 people aboard made an emergency landing at the Detroit airport, and residents several miles away reported engine pieces landing in their neighborhood.

The Spirit Airlines plane landed safely Friday, and no injuries were reported, said airline spokeswoman Lynne Koreman.

On final approach to the airport, the captain of the flight from Myrtle Beach, S.C., heard a noise from one of the engines, Koreman said. The captain landed the plane with aircraft rescue and firefighting crews standing by, said airport spokesman Mike Conway.

Residents in Dearborn Heights, about six miles northeast of the airport, reported falling debris to airport and Federal Aviation Administration officials.
