Marjorie "Marj" O. Hewitt, 89, child of God, returned to her Heavenly Father on July 16, 2001.

She was born to Daysie and Oscar Olman on Sept 23, 1911 in Stoughton, WI. The family lived in Princeton, WI until 1921, and in Juneau, WI until 1925, when they moved to Beaver Dam, WI where Marjorie attend-ed high school, graduating Valedictorian of her class in 1929. She graduated from the University of Wisconsin in 1934 earning a degree in education. She was a member of Delta Zeta Sorority. During a break from school in 1932-33, Marjorie worked in Washington, DC for an uncle serving as a U.S. Congressman. At that time, she met her future husband Arthur "Art" C. Lankford from Georgia, who was also working for an uncle, a U.S. Congressman. They married in 1935 and lived in Arlington, VA for 13 years during which time their children Patricia "Patti" and Charles were born. In 1948, the family moved to Salt Lake City, UT and in 1952, they moved to Idaho Falls, ID. Marjorie worked several years as Director of Christian Education at Idaho Falls Presbyterian Church after which she taught second grade in the public school system. Marj and the children returned to Salt Lake City in 1961 following Arthur's death. She was employed by the Granite School District as a speech therapist.

Marjorie married Olton "Ton" Hewitt in 1962. They enjoyed 18 years of happiness together, sharing many good times with friends and family at home and on trips. Marjorie enjoyed reading, writing travelogues, needlework, visiting museums, attending symphonies and theatre productions. She was a 50-year member of the PEO Sisterhood Chapter S (holding most offices), Eastern Star, served on the Women's Board of Westminster College, and was an active participant in Friends of the Salt Lake City Library. Marjorie was committed to her faith in Jesus Christ and her involvement in the Presbyterian Church. She served as an Elder, Deacon, taught Sunday School, worked with youth classes, attended Mariners, and served on the church library board.

Marjorie is survived by her five children Patti Baer (Alvin), Charles Lankford (Beverly), Glenn Hewitt (Leila), Thomas Hewitt (Bonnie), Paul Hewitt (Leora); Grandchildren Carol Ann Laughlin (Michael), Kristin Baer Werder (Kurt), David Hewitt (Liisa), Julie Copley (Curt), Michael Hewitt (Vicki), Darrell Hewitt (Kari), Jeannie Brooks (Brent), Brian Hewitt, and Jim Hewitt; Great-Grandchildren Morgan Werder, Nicole and Matthew Hewitt, Abigail and Jonathon Copley, Katelynn and Quinton Brooks, sister Loraine Schilling (Bill), and cousins.

A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 25, 2001 at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park. A Memorial service will follow at 1 p.m. at Wasatch Presbyterian Church, 1626 S. 1700 E. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Wasatch Presbyterian Church or the PEO Sisterhood. Funeral Directors Evans & Early Mortuary.
