Nathan Jones, age 85, passed away July 18, 2001 peacefully at his home in Vernal sur-rounded by his loving family.
He was born Sept 15, 1915 in Tabiona, UT a son of John Henry and Clemintine Coe Jones. He married his sweetheart La-Velle Freda Jorgensen Nov 3, 1937 in Granger, UT. The marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple July 19, 1938 Nathan was a farmer, builder, and construction worker, working as a Maintenance Superintendent for Chevron/American Gilsonite Company. Nathan held many leadership positions including bishopric and high council for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and also served four missions. He was active in many civic organizations, where he served as Lions Club President. Nathan enjoyed basket weaving, rug weaving and woodcarving where he learned his skills from the Aleutian Natives in Kodiak, AK.
He is survived by his wife, LaVelle; children, Richard (Wanda) Jones, Roosevelt, Sherry Lee (Owen) Cald-well, Vernal, Christine Jeanne (Lee) Stewart, Pocatello, ID; sisters, Doris (Scott) Nye, West Valley City, Melba (Jay) Wright, Murray; 13 grandchildren, and 27 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his five brothers, LeRoy, Earl, Don, Wayne, Leo; and three sisters, Sylvia, Margaret, Edna.
Services will be Mon. July, 23, 2001, 11 a.m. in the Maeser 4th Ward Chapel, 2575 N. 1500 W. Friends may call Sun. at Thomson-Blackburn Vernal Mortuary 7-9 p.m. and at the Maeser Chapel one hour prior to the services. Burial, Rockpoint Cemetery. Directors, Thomson-Black-burn Vernal Mortuary.
