A half million taxpayers received a letter from the IRS informing them that they would get the maximum tax-cut refund when in fact they won't. Call me a cynic, but this could lead to people not trusting the government.
When the mistake was discovered, a corrected letter was sent. The IRS director gave the order—"Send them the 'WHOOPS' Letter."
A computer error led to telling 523,000 people that they would get more money then they actually will receive. This must be the same computer that shows there is a surplus.
According to Alan Greenspan, this is not yet the beginning of the economic upswing but, perhaps, the beginning of the end of the downswing period. Or, in the immortal words of Duke Ellington, "It don't mean a thing if it ain't got that swing."
