Some statistics about Roman Catholics:

—1.02 billion Catholics worldwide, including 62.3 million in the United States.

—44 million registered Catholic voters, or 33 percent of all registered voters.

—Democrat Al Gore received 49 percent of the Catholic vote in November; Republican George W. Bush got 47 percent.

—40 percent of Catholics who voted in November identified themselves as registered Democrats, 35 percent Republicans, 22 percent independents.
