American millionaire adventurer Steve Fossett arrived in the Australian outback on Tuesday for his sixth attempt to be the first person to fly a balloon solo around the world.

Fossett, whose last try on June 17 was canceled when his balloon was ripped in gusting winds while being inflated in the rough and tumble mining town of Kalgoorlie, said he was hoping to head off on Thursday, weather permitting.

"We were able to get the repairs done, and team has really put a big push on, and we are going to have a chance at it," Fossett said shortly after piloting his own jet into Kalgoorlie in Western Australia from Colorado.

The round-the-world southern hemisphere flight is expected to take up to 18 days.
