Thomas Gordon Heelis, 83, passed away July 22, 2001 at his home in Santaquin, Utah of causes incident to age. He was born August 6, 1917, the oldest son of Thomas Peter and Anna Sophia Johnson Heelis. He attended school in Santaquin and graduated from Payson High School. On June 22, 1940 he married Arlene LeBaron in the Manti Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Gordon was a miner, farmer

and orchardist and retired from Geneva Steele. Active in the LDS Church all of his life, he served in many capacities, including home teacher, Primary teacher, Bishop, Provo Temple worker, and Stake Patriarch.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Arlene, and five of his six children: Bonnie (Howard) Christensen, Payson; Dennis (Sherry) Heelis, Payson; Carla (Jim)

DeGraffenried, Santaquin; Rosanne (Matthew) Thomas, Marysville, WA; Malea (Brad) Peterson, Payson; daughter-in-law Debby Calderon, Lehi; 36 grandchildren and 36 great grandchildren. Other survivors include two sisters, Lola Bradley, Salt Lake City, and Mary June Heelis, Santaquin; and a sister-in-law, Lila Heelis, Orem. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, William, Wilbur, and Theron; sisters, Betty Neff and Mildred Greenhalgh; a son, Thomas Gordon Heelis, Jr.; and a grandson Alex Christensen.

Funeral services will be Thursday, July 26, at 11 a.m. in the Santaquin First Ward, 90 South 200 East. Friends may call Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Holladay Hills Funeral Home, 66 South 300 East, Santaquin, or Thursday at the church from 10 to 10:45 a.m. prior to services. Gordon will be long remembered for his friendly greetings, his devotion to his wife and pride in his family, his years of Christian service and the dignity with which he endured to the end.
